ALTERNATIVES THAT WORK to Hair Restoration Surgery

While hair restoration or hair transplantation is truly the only permanent solution for hair loss patients, there are a few viable FDA approved hair growth options. Whether you’re considering a hair transplant or not, you should be using one or all of the following hair medical hair restoration treatments to slow down and/or stop your hair loss.

Minoxidil, otherwise known as Rogaine has been on the market for many years. This over the counter pharmaceutical has been proven to slow down hair loss in roughly 38% of male users. Another effective device is the FDA approved Lexington Hairmax Lasercomb. According to the manufactures double blind placebo controlled studies roughly 61% of the men that use the device for thinning or balding hair slow their hair loss down. This Low Level Laser Light stimulates hair growth and has no known side effects. Lastly, the most effective hair loss product on the market is still the prescription medication Propecia manufactured by Merck. We recommend Propecia to every male suffering from hair loss. What is the difference between male and female hair loss?

Many people think that female pattern hair loss is the same disease as male pattern hair loss, it just “looks different” in women. In the last few years there has been a lot of discussion between the hair restoration surgeons in the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) about the possibility that these are in reality two separate diseases or problems. Today many ISHRS physicians think that indeed they are two different diseases because their natural history (epidemiology) is so different. Many hair restoration surgery specialists think “Female Androgenetic Alopecia” is a misnomer and prefer the term Congenital Female Pattern Hair Loss.
